To the Citizens of Danville and Surrounding Areas:
Since our last letter to the Republican about Reith Riley wishing to expand its operation by increasing the land it now uses, we have had further developments. They include:
1. A conversation with Hendricks County Planning resulting in a change of meeting times. The Plan Commission decided that this issue would be better heard by the whole Plan Commission rather than by the Administrative and Plat Committee (a sub-committee of the Plan Commission). THE NEW MEETING IS JUNE 10 AT 6:30 PM AT THE GOVERNMENT CENTER.
2. We have learned from a person living about 1.25 miles from the asphalt plant that noise is a big factor for them. This noise can be clearly heard when inside their house with doors and windows closed.
3. Does anyone besides me remember that Reith Riley stated in the hearings held previously that their smell and dust would stop at the property line??
4. We have heard from persons living about 1 mile away from the asphalt plant that they have consistently smelled the plant, especially in the evenings. And when do we want to enjoy the out-of-doors in the spring, summer, and fall? In the evenings, of course, particularly for those of us who work during the day.
5. Does anyone remember that Reith Riley may have remarked at previous hearings that they did not wish to grow beyond their original footprint?? If anyone has solid evidence of this, please let us know.
6. We will still have someone attending the May 14 9:00 AM meeting of the Admin and Plat Committee to make SURE that the transfer to June 10 takes place.
7. BECAUSE OF THE CHANGE OF MEETING DATE, IT IS STILL NOT TOO LATE TO SENT OR FAX LETTERS TO THE HENDRICKS COUNTY PLAN COMMISSION. SEE ADDRESS AND FAX BELOW:
Hendricks County Area Plan Commission

Please remember that this is YOUR community and it is up to everyone to help make it better. We would like to hear from you. You are welcome to email us at:

To all citizens of Danville and surrounding areas:
Just spoke to Don Reitz and he stated that, because of our concerns, the RR issue would be transferred to the whole Plan Commission rather that being heard in the original smaller committee. Therefore, the meeting of May 14 will only be to conduct the transfer to the next regular Plan Comm. meeting which will be June 10 at 6:30. Please plan to attend if at all possible, and whether or not you can attend, keep those letters coming to the County Plan office. Also, as previously stated, pass on this information to other concerned friends and neighbors. Smells, sounds, pollution . . . . . . . . they all travel!! And I am sure as the summer heats up, they will be travelling more and more. Danville is too nice a town to have to put up with a large corporation starting small and then trying to grow unaware, blighting our entryway into town.
Sincerely,
05/08/2008
On May 14th at 9:00am Reith-Riley will appear before the Area Plan Commission Administrative and Plat Committee to request an amendment to their minor subdivision plat. What this means is that they are requesting an increase in their area of production by over 50%. They apparently own the land behind IMI at the corner of CR 200E and US 36. They originally only platted about 13 acres to use for asphalt production. Now they want to increase production. According to a staff member of the county highway dept., RR has only been producing "cold patch," which is the product used to patch holes. Now they want to grow their production capacity to produce larger quantities of paving material for new road construction.
Usually these types of amendments for minor plats are voted through with no fanfare and no contention. However, if you would like to voice concern please write to:
HENDRICKS COUNTY AREA PLAN COMMISSION
355 S. WASHINGTON STREET
DANVILLE, IN 46122
You are also welcome to attend the meeting on the 14th. It is our responsibility to let our county officials know our views and concerns; they cannot read our minds. They must hear from us.
Yours for a better, cleaner Danville
